10-5-21   THOUGHTS

“Higgaion Selah”   We find these terms below,  following some remarks about God’s  power.  The idea below seems to be that  “sin turns on itself.” What comes around, goes around.     “In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. Higgaion Selah.”   The idea is that God converts the sinner's own inventions against others,  into means of self-destruction. Sin destroys the sinner!  I cite, for examples, the story of Haman in the book of Esther and Pharaoh in Exodus..   Higgaion —  means "meditation," and, combined with Selah, seems to denote a pause of unusual solemnity and emphasis.  It seems the writer is saying “this truth is significant, stop and think on it for a moment.”  It may have been a musical pause.

Ps 9:15-20    The nations have sunk down in the pit which they have made; In the net which they hid, their own foot has been caught. 16  The LORD has made Himself known; He has executed judgment. In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. Higgaion Selah.  17  The wicked will return to Sheol, Even all the nations who forget God.  18  For the needy will not always be forgotten, Nor the hope of the afflicted perish forever. 19  Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail; Let the nations be judged before You. 20  Put them in fear, O LORD; Let the nations know that they are but men. Selah.

Es 3:1  After these events King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and established his authority over all the princes who [were] with him.
Es 7:9   Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who [were] before the king said, "Behold indeed, the gallows standing at Haman’s house fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai who spoke good on behalf of the king!" And the king said, "Hang him on it."
Ps 58:10-11    The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.  11  And men will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous; Surely there is a God who judges on earth!"
Prov 12:13   An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble.
Ex 14:13-14    But Moses said to the people, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today,  you will never see them again forever. 14  "The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent."
Ex 14:28  The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even Pharaoh’s entire army that had gone into the sea after them; not even one of them remained.

My Prayer:
O Lord, you alone are the avenging power to us as we are afflicted in this world.  Help us to wait with silent faith. May we see always and clearly that sin is defeated.  It is by your power, and your design.  Help us to know the peace that passes understanding.  It comes from you O God and you only, through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.    We pray in his name         Amen
